Andrea has been riding and working with horses from a young age. She began at summer camp, then started working at a small private barn in middle school, learning a lot through hands on work. She continued her education at UNH, where she spent 5 years majoring in Pre-Veterinary studies with a focus on Equine Studies, and graduated Cum Laude. She rode for all 5 years, including a year on the IHSA team, studying under Janet Briggs and Sarah Hamilton. She aced the UNH Instructor's Program, studying deep into the theroies and practices of training both the rider and horse. During this time, she also volunteered at an equine rescue. It was her responsibility to evaluate and work with rescued equines, and prepare them for a new life. She rode anywhere from 4-8 horses a day, learning from all kinds of horses with all different backgrounds.
7 years ago, Andrea began running her own boarding business. She spends as much time in the barn as possible, riding, training, and working with as many horses as possible. As an eventer, she has brought several horses along, training them from the ground up. She and her mare, Shady, succesfully compete at Preliminary Level, at large and challenging competitions across New England, New York, and plan to conqur the southern states soon!
Andrea plans to continue eventing and moving up the levels, including moving Shady up to Intermediate level in the near future. She wants to focus more on retraining and selling up and coming eventers. She also wants to get more into breeding eventers.
As a barn manager, Andrea believes that horses should be relaxed and happy in their environment. The owner should always be able to enjoy their horse and have fun. Everything should be safe and clean. As a trainer, Andrea believes in consistent, positive training that will bring out the best in the horse. She feels that the horse should enjoy their job, and look forward to performing. As an instructor, Andrea aims to teach the student all aspects of the horse and how the rider can bring out the best in their mount in a fun, positive, safe manner.
She believes that the safety, well being, and happiness of the horse should always come first. Riding should always be a joy, for both horse and rider!
